Klarissa Young- Philips Journey

Klarissa W. Young
Fifth Period.
The cay
In the book The Cay, it talks about a lot of significant things, but one journey that made a boy into an independent hero was Phillips journey. It starts off with Phillips mother wanting to leave home because she was fed up with World War II witch was taking place. As they were leaving home on the S.S. Hato, it was torpedoed. Timothy was in the water, when a man rescued him on a raft named Timothy, who will change his life, and separated him from his mother.
Phillip and Timothy were on the raft for days. Suddenly, One day one the raft, Phillips eyes was hurting really badly. Later that day, he finds out that he is blind. Right after, Timothy spots a melon-shaped-cay, and makes it into there shelter.
His mentor, Timothy, does everything he can to make Phillip a Independent young adult, because Timothy knew if he didn’t show him how to deal with his blindness then Timothy will never appreciate things. Timothy knew that he wasn’t going to make it out of the cay, so he hade to show Phillip some basic skills for his own survival. Timothy shortly died after on the cay because if a hurricane that hit. It was devastating. So there Phillip is, on his own, blind.
Yes, Phillip did get rescued shortly after. Phillip became a strong person physically and mentally. His adventure was like no other. He did get his sight back, and never forgot about his guardian angle/mentor Timothy.
It might take something as extreme as what Phillip hade to go though to open your eyes to bigger and better things, or, to make you into a hero. He separated away from his mother, went blind, found his only friend dead. Timothy did a full 360 on his life in a good way. He became a better person, all from one extraordinary journey.
