Fifth period
The Cay is a book about heroism and overcoming prejudice. During The Cay our hero Phillip and his mother leave there home in pursue of getting away from World War Two. They depart on the ship S.S Hato but sadly the ship is torpedoed so Phillip and his mother are separated. Phillip awakes on a raft next to a cat and a black guy named Timothy. In The Cay months go by, and after many events Phillip is changed into a hero and his world is better because he has matured and is no longer prejudice.
In The Cay Phillip and his mothers departure is brought on by the fact that Phillip’s mother is terrified because of the war. The Germans are torpedoing the island Phillip lives on called Curacao because they want to destroy the oil refinery. Phillip’s mother and father argue over Phillip and his mother leaving, Phillips father thinks it would be best for them to stay. Despite what Phillip’s father thinks Phillip and his mother leave on the S.S Hato and the ship is torpedoed.
When Phillip awakes he’s on a raft with a cat and Timothy the man that saved him, a black man. Phillip, Stew Cat, and Timothy are stuck on a raft and Phillips head is swarming with negative thoughts because Timothy is black. Phillip grew up with the impression that blacks and whites were different. One night Phillip closes his eyes to sleep but when he wakes up he can no longer see. Timothy takes care of Phillip twenty-four seven, and when they reach an island that they named The Cay, Phillip had no idea what the island even looked like. During the time on the island Timothy teaches Phillip many needed thinks, he taught him to fish by himself, climb a tree and Phillip ended up helping Timothy recover from Malaria. After months of being on the island a hurricane hits and Timothy prepares, but when it hits Timothy dies and Phillip has to fend for himself. He caught his own fish and he made black smoke on his own.
Because of the black smoke Phillip made he is found by a Navy boat. They Find Phillip naked with stew cat and they bring him home to his parents. When he gets home he has surgery and regains his eyesight and he begins to enjoy spending a lot of time around black people and has no more negative feelings toward black people.
The Cay definitely is a story that describes a true hero’s journey. The whole concept is that Phillip is brought to an island and after a series of unfortunate events he matures, overcomes his prejudices, and with the help of Timothy becomes a true hero. So Phillips Journey is definitely a heroic one.

Fifth Period.
The cay
In the book The Cay, it talks about a lot of significant things, but one journey that made a boy into an independent hero was Phillips journey. It starts off with Phillips mother wanting to leave home because she was fed up with World War II witch was taking place. As they were leaving home on the S.S. Hato, it was torpedoed. Timothy was in the water, when a man rescued him on a raft named Timothy, who will change his life, and separated him from his mother.
Phillip and Timothy were on the raft for days. Suddenly, One day one the raft, Phillips eyes was hurting really badly. Later that day, he finds out that he is blind. Right after, Timothy spots a melon-shaped-cay, and makes it into there shelter.
His mentor, Timothy, does everything he can to make Phillip a Independent young adult, because Timothy knew if he didn’t show him how to deal with his blindness then Timothy will never appreciate things. Timothy knew that he wasn’t going to make it out of the cay, so he hade to show Phillip some basic skills for his own survival. Timothy shortly died after on the cay because if a hurricane that hit. It was devastating. So there Phillip is, on his own, blind.
Yes, Phillip did get rescued shortly after. Phillip became a strong person physically and mentally. His adventure was like no other. He did get his sight back, and never forgot about his guardian angle/mentor Timothy.
It might take something as extreme as what Phillip hade to go though to open your eyes to bigger and better things, or, to make you into a hero. He separated away from his mother, went blind, found his only friend dead. Timothy did a full 360 on his life in a good way. He became a better person, all from one extraordinary journey.

The cay is a book in which a boy named Phillip has very difficult parents and his mother Mrs. Enright didn’t like the island because they were in world war two and they could be bombed so she was going to take her son Phillip away but while on the s.s hato (the boat they took) it was bombed and Phillip lost his mother he then ended up on a boat with a man named timothy who just happened to be black and Phillip was just a little prejudice so that was bad considering. Phillip and timothy didn’t get along at first Phillip thought that he was selfish because he wouldn’t give him more water but timothy was just trying to conserve water. Phillip became blind and he could not see anything so it was hard. They found a little island and went on it when they were still in sea they got a cat that they called stew cat and the cat was surely not liking the water so he stayed with the two boys. Timothy was thinking and saying they would surely be rescued in a few days and he was still having some doubts about it thow. Timothy then thought that they were in something called the devils mouth which was closed off from the sea and that they would just have to make a help sign out of rocks and timothy told Phillip to do it and they fought there was a day when they were making mats and Phillip called timothy a stupid old black man who doesn’t Evan know how to spell and timothy slapped him then Phillip knew that timothy wasn’t trying to seem like a bad man he was just trying to help and that he wasn’t against him because he said he was 70 something years old and there was a slight chance that he may not survive so he was just trying to help. He taught Phillip how to fish and all and Phillip sorta knew why he knew that timothy might be afraid and was getting Phillip ready. One morning timothy thought he heard someone shooting and then timothy told him it was the waves that they were warning them for the storm that was coming. Timothy thought stew cat was cursed so he made a voodoo cat of him just in case. Timothy knew the storm was coming and was worried he made things stronger and all so it would survive then one day the storm hit timothy protected Phillip and in the end died because he was old and so tired his body couldn’t take it timothy then knew why timothy had taught him all of this stuff he wanted a longosta so he went down to get one he said to stew cat if I don’t come up in 20 min come get me on his first dive he caught one then he searched for more he found a hole and decided that there would probably be a big one in there he took a big breath went under put his hand in and something bit him he pulled and it went out easily so he went up he screamed when he broke the water he decided that it must have been the moray eel that bit him one morning he woke up and he heard a helicopter it sounded like but when he finally got the fire started he listened and it was gone he thought about it and he needed oil to make black smoke then a few days later he heard another he could Evan feel wind he got the fire started after some miner complications and then the plane left he was sad and he thought he was never going to get saved but in the morning he heard a familiar bell and want outside and there was a boat he put a knife that timothy had and he was saved along with stew cat people were asking questions and it was aggravating in the end timothy gets his eyesight back and he hangs out with people who knew timothy he was sad still he lost a great friend and a good mentor he was going to go back to the island that he and timothy called theres he wouldn’t know it by sight but he would close his eyes and know it was his he would visit timothy’s grave and he would know that he taught him something well and he was so thankful for that of he might of died

NAOMI JUAREZ RESPECT
I get respect at Home,at Church, and in my Group but the way i get respect at home is when my mother trusts me when im going out with my friends but i also give respect at Church By NOT telling LIES and not disrespecting my elders around me and i also get respect in my Group by them not disrespecting me or anyone around so i give and get respect by treating others the same way i want to be treated and not the way i do not want to get treated.
How do i get respect?I get respect at home, because I do my chours and listen to my family when they ask me or tell me to do something.I also pay attention and do what needs to be done aronud the house even if it is not my mess i still clean up.And i always listen to my mom when she asks me to do stuff for her and she treats me how she wants to be treated.I also get respect at schoo by the teachers and students, because a listen well in cless and i do't talk when it is not my turn to talk in class. It is really disrespectful when other people are talking and you interupt them will they are trying too talk. And I also get respect from my friends, because I am always there for them and I help them out when they have a problem. And i have a few good friends, becauce they are there for me and they helpme at also.I also get respect from people in groups when we do group activities, because i help with the class work and i listen to what they have to say.It is really good to give RESPECT, because they will end up giving it right back to you.
Mark Landeros Respect
Respect is the main thing to every relationship. It can be earned and lost, very lost. there is different ways you earn respect for different people or groups. Like at school how you earn respect is just to do your work and what the teacher told you to do. Then to earn respect at work is just to work hard and be the best at what you do.also to earn respect at home is to do what your parents ask you to do and be responsible. Then to earn respect in a group is to be committed. also to earn respect with friend is to be loyal, honest and trustworthy and honest. That's what i think respect is.
Brenda Barajas, RESPECT
How do you get respect. You get respect in lots ways. the way you get respect with friends are, don't be mean, rude a jerk and don't be a backstaber. In teams, dont make it all about you. don't be a ball hog, and let evryone have a trun.Athome be helpfull, do stuff without being told to. Be curdeus and help out.At church dom't talk on your cellphone. be kind grnerus.
Oscar Slazar (RESPECT)
Respect
You can earn respect almost everywhere One of them is at school. You can earn
respect by doing all of your work, and being nice to other people. How to get
respect with friends, well it depends on the type of friends you have. One way
is when they need your help you help them and you will never tell (Snitch)
on them and never let them down. You can also earn respect at work by being a
hard working man or woman, and most important respect your friend. In groups you can earn respect by doing your work good, and try to make your self better in the
group. Those are some way's youcan get respect.
Drew Bowers Respect
Hi. My name is Drew Bowers. I am 14, and I am writing this essay on respect. In this essay I will tell you how I get respect at home, school, and with friends.
At home I get respect by treating others with consideration. I try not to yell when I'm mad.I do chores to help out, and I try not to fight.
I get respect at school by not talking, and staring straight ahead when I'm walking. In class, I don't talk much, and I keep my eyes on my own work. I show my teachers respect by doing my work/homework, and getting it in on time.
I earn respect from my friends by being myself, and by being nice to them.Itry to think before I say, because I can say some careless things sometimes.
Thank you for reading my essay.

When it comes to me being at different places at a certain timeI always try to get the respect I want . Like for example at home I try getting respect by cleaning and trying to keep the place clean, also by helping my mom out while she is cooking and by me takin care of the kids. When it comes to being at school and trying to get the respect there it's not that easy. Why because each age group treats freshmen for example me,the way that they want to treat us .That is why when I meet new people I treat them equally and with respect.Friends, I see th respect different because of course we guys are always going to be pals and not disrespect one another.Working in a group, I feel like it's the saying "treat others the way you want to be treated" and to get the respect when there is ,I try my best by putting lots of effortand by helping. At church I feel repected at all times no matter what.I also feel that everyone and every living thingshould have the same respect no matter what.
Priscilla Poasa ,"Respect"
The word respect is a strong word for me. When I hear that word , it always remind me to be respectful. The person that Id respect is my grandmother . Shes always been so respectful to me. "You give respect you earn respect , thats the way I see it. "The other people Id respect is my teachers, at school the reason why is because they respect you the same way. Also they can be some one to talk to . The way that I get respect at home, is when I have manners. Also being a good girl. Also when I do all my chores. Thats a good thing. The way that I get respect from my friends is when I listen to what they have to say, and be an understanding person to them 100%. When I get respect at school I feel like a special person, but in agood way thats why I feel respected. The way that I get respect from my teachers are doing what I have to do and listening to what they have to say. So that my respecting life .

You have to gain respect, and if you loose someones it might take years to gain back. My way of getting respect at home is to obey and listen to my elders. At school I wouldn't spread rumors about other people when there not there to defend it. With friends, you have to respect others opinion, stay true to my self. In groups give your personal opinion and listen to others. At church, you must listen and respect others opinion. On teams, Its not a one-person-thing, play as a team, and be a good sport.Respect can take long to get, but loosing respect can take seconds, and take years to gain back.

i think the way to get respect is by showing it. by showing respect your being a proper good citizen. when you do things for people, such as helping an old lady or man with groceries or just simply picking up what someone dropped and giving it back to them and by being a truthful pearson you are displaying that you are a respectful pearson. the way to lose respect is byt talking behind someones back or telling someones secrets,or letting someone ndown especially if you made a promise. respect is very important to me because, that is because for half of my life ive lived with someone who does not respect themself or anyone else. so respect is something i rarely see with that pearson when im with them and that is what i think of respect

I belive you get respect when you give it. I also believe that its easier to get and give respect with family and friends because you know them pretty well and your around them more then anything. Other places you give and get respect would be at work, in groups or teams, at school, at church and alot of other places. Everywhere you go theres respect, theres even an old saying that says "Respect your elders" that I agree with more than anything. But you need to remember that respect is a privlige. Respect is earned its not just given out. Another thing that i think is that you need to be polite and considerate of others, if you do that you should have no problem getting respect. But being polite and considerate is a good starter but its not the onlythings you sholud do. You should also just try to be happy, loving and an up-beat person because its better to look at everything with a posative perspective, "as the glass half full." If you do this it will make everything alot easier and you will get more respect because people respect others they love to be around.

Because respect is what everyone wants from each other.Like you dont like to be treated badly, don't treat other people how you don't want to be treated. For example at home your gardenings, sibilings, and friends you should always respect them. including your mom and dad, when they tell you to do some thing you do it dont give them your attude.
The same goes for your sibilings. Like brothers and sisther you sometimes get into fights or a argument, older or younger. the same also gose for your friends dont back stab them, talk SMACK about them or any of those stuff.with no respect you will not get so far in life. such as at school. you always respect or give them. talking when someone else is talking is really bad respect. thats what respect is all about

Earing respect at school is kind of like money sometimes . see 2 get respect you have 2 give it right. Well that's what some people say or some times they would say to get respect you will have to earn it well that's becacuse they belive that if you want something you have to earn it or they would just give it to you like other people will. See sometimes respct could be use as like your at home and your brothers will make you earn it or they would beat you so bad you can hardly breath. or it could be like your with your friends and you trust them and you just give it to them and they will respect them as they do to you and you will respect them foever or at least until your not friends that is respect is really all about respect people the way you want to be respcted.

Ok some ways i get respect at work and other places like school, home on sports teams , and with friends. At work i realy to get respect because everyone at work is older than me.I do my best to help people.Like lifting heavy things ,like moving big boxes and other things .Now at school it's a diffrent story because at work i have to use stregth to get respect but at school i use my mind.
So with sports teams i gain my respect by pulling my own weight.Like alwys coming to practice and doing my best. With my friends i gain my respect by loanning them money and helping them with homework. Now those were some ways i get respect.
What are your ways?

How you earn respect in a lot of places is if you respect first. Pretty much saying "Treat people how you want to be treated." Earning respect is pretty easy by the way. First of all showing respect at school might be ruff sometimes. Especially if people are disrespectful and don't give you respect back. Also showing your teachers respect is a good thing to.
Because you shouldn't be taking out your anger on your teachers if you are mad. Another reason respect should be showed at school is because like if you want to make friends with other people. You should always be your self , that way they know you want to be respected and they know that they would be respected back.

Respect, respect is something you must earn, its not just given out to those who want it most. Respect comes in many different forms, at home, at school, in groups, with friends, at work, and on teams. Respect at home is probably the easiest to receive, listen to your parents, take care of your responsibilities, and never ever talk back. At school it's a little more difficult, but all you need to know is to not talk while others are talking and to be a better self. In groups, try not to be a know-it-all and take turns. Getting respect from friends is where it starts to get hard. Just remember to always be yourself and always be honest. At work your bosses might be jerks, but it will always go by faster if your on-time, do what needs to be done, and don't talk back to your boss. On a team, you need to have lots of faith, never say "I can't," always do what the coach asks when he asks it, and always give it your all! You need to earn respect, it's not just given.

The way i get respect from home, school, groups and friends is as followed.
I can do chores around the house without being told. I respect others stuff and space. I can also clean up after myself to not add additional work for my parents. I can definitely earn respect by acknowledging the fact the others want to learn and not be disruptive. During school hours i can be prompt to each class and having all materials. I can ask questions that may or may not help me and my classmates.
I could join special interest groups and meet with similar interest as my own,and respect them and there choices. Another way is willing to cooperate aside with my group members. Also i can be open to suggestions to help with activities and other things. Usually i earn respect from friends by being nice and being creative with my thoughts, aswell as give my attention when its needed.
Those are just a few things i do to earn respect. :D

How I earn respect at home is by listening to my elders, and being considerate of others. At school I earn respect by being a better me, and always keeping a smile on my face. With friends I keep respect by never talking behind there backs. Also I get respect by staying away from the drama. In groups I get respect by being kind to everyone. In church I earn respect by being quiet and listening to others. On teams I get respect by being respectful to everyone else on the team.

Do you know how to respect yourself and others? Well I do and these are a few things i do or think people should and shouldn't do. When I'm with my friends I'm just myself. Don't act fake, people should don't like that and will disrespect you. Don't say rude stuff to your friends because they will say rude stuff back and be disrespectful. Doing the right thing is always something people will have respect for. Your friends will admire and respect you so much.
Having respect at home is different for some people. If your like me, one of the youngest in the family its hard to get respect. Adults are always bossing you around. If you do you part of the house work and don't talk back, you'll get some respect. Maybe not all the respect you wanted but there is still some.
Having respect at school is easy. Don't be starting stuff with people, if it's none of your concern.Treat others the way you want to be treated is pretty much the golden rule, for getting respect at school.
Having respect in groups is simple. Let everyone have a turn to speak. Be nice, and fair. Don't talk over people wait till it's your turn. Be quiet and polite with other groups.
Having respect for yourself is very important! Don't be cutting yourself or hurting yourself in anyways! If you allow yourself to hurt yourself, people aren't going to respect that. They might try and bully you because they know you don't respect yourself. Stand up for yourself! Don't show people your weak. Don't discourage yourself from anything! Believe in yourself, others will too and really respect that. This is just some simple things i do to show or earn respect. :)

When it comes to getting respect, there are many ways. And my ways may differ but they work. The way I earn respect on teams is that I show that I am valuable to have on the team and I asked for pointers so I can keep on being that special player. There are other ways of earning repect, depending on the subjects. For instance, in groups, with friends, and at home. The way I earn respect in groups is that I give great ideas that could benefit us later on. Now with friends it's a little different; with friends I earn respect by not giving in to peer pressure. You may lose a friend, but if they don't respect your desicion...they're not a true friend. And at home, you can earn repsect by doing your chores and/or not arguing...period!
