How did Poe die? this question still has many answers and conflicts today. One theory says he died of rabies, another said it was alcohol. It also could have been encephalitis related to rabies. Many more theories still remain.
Very few humans have ever had the disease rabies, even fewer could remember it being animal related. When Poe was sent to the hospital for rabies, they said there was no animal bite. Poe did show signs of rabies but nothing would support the fact that he actually had rabies. He did have a cat, but the cat did not have any diseases at all.
Another theory was that he died of alcohol. Back then, a few people claimed they saw Poe in a bar on Lombard street. theories say that he was delirious and that it worsened. people claimed that he had consumed too much alcohol.
One other big theory going around was that he had encephalitis. people say he got this from being too drunk to care about the cold, wintry weather. people have also stated that he left Richmond with a fever.
From this information, we can conclude that he may have died from some sort of illness. we may not know exactly what illness he may of died from, but everyone has a different story to tell. what ever you may believe is good enough for me.
