Della was really sad, crying, feeling lousy. She felt like that because all she had was 87 cents. That definately wasnt enough to get Jim his christmas present. So she went to a store. Cut off all of her hair. And sold it to the girl for $20. And she was on her way to find Jim his present.
Della went looking for the perfect present. She turned all the stores inside out to find something. Looked all over, ransacking every place. When she finally found it she thought it was the most wonderful thing she's ever seen. She knew that was the right one for Jim. And knew he'd love it. So she gave the sales person her $20 and was now on her way home to get ready for Jim's arrival.
Jim had a blank expression on his face. Della was so scared. She didn't know what to think. But she told Jim that she was the same person and nothing really had changed. But all Jim could say was "you cut your hair?" And she replied that she would start cooking dinner. He came back to reality and told her that nothing could change his mind about her. That she could shave her head and he would feel the same way about her. And he put the present for della out on the table. She opened it and saw that it was something she's wanted for such a long time. They were so beautiful, with the jewels that was surrounding the edges. They were the nicest combs she's ever seen. And they were hers. He had exclaimed that he had to sell his watch for her to get those.
