the theam of the story was people do grat sacrifices for the ones thay love.As Della, she only had $1.87 to buy a present for Jm. To anybody thay could of bought something just for anyone. but for Della that was not enogh. She wanted to buy something meaningful for him. So as della thinks she trys to figure out what to give him. To them thar was only tow things that ment alot to them,that was prechis to them, giving them overwhelming joy and prid. to Jim thar was his golden wach. And to della thar was her long beautifull hair. As della wanted to buy something meaningfull she will give up something meaningfull,something precious,something that is menes alot to her.so she went to go cut it off.With her money she went to go find the perfect gift for him. while walking along the street corners when she found the perfect gift,she found that was like no other in the world. A golden chain for jim's watch. Looking at it she thought that it was a perfect gift. Even though the cost was her hair.
When she got home she hid the chain,while getting ready for jims arrival she pleaded to herself that jim with not be mad with her. Jim as he walked through the door. He had no emotions at first Della thought he was mad. So she explained everything. Jim smiled and gave her, her present. it was the comb that she always wanted. She was happy,but sad. It was to hold her LONG hair up,that she no longer had. As della took out the chain for jims watch,she asked for it. But jim i dont have it. I sold it for your present. They looked at eachother with the same thought in there minds. They both gave up the most important thing in there lives to get something special for eachother.
